OT: Political but a must read

Interesting reading on this Sept 11

And it makes me think now only how the world has changed in the last 5 years, but how the internet has changed our methods of getting information.

Engineers are cool

My spinning wheel is back in my living room, and it works better than it ever did, even when it was new. After much discussion and consultation, the shop guys decided that the "pulleys" were out of alignment and that the maiden needed a brass sleeve to hold it steady and the flier needed a pin to keep it from wobbling.

The pulleys they lined up are the wheel and the flier, which required moving the mother-of-all over 1/2 an inch or so. OH MY GOD what a difference. The wheel is quieter, its smoother, and it flows very nicely. I'm so happy. And those guys are getting mittens this winter. All of them.

I have convinced the graduate students who were redesigning and upgrading the inefficient technology for making wool that it's already been done. They were stubborn, but are convinced by pictures.

I have taught one of the ME grad students to weave using a continues strand method, which I use on my triloom. He's working on a project with a stretchy filament for a DOD project. I have no idea what. He came upon me sitting in the sunshine, knitting, at lunch a couple of weeks ago, and had some on him. It doesn't knit well because it's sticky, but it weaves pretty nicely. We also discussed Teflon knitting needles.
