Startitis

The Yarn Harlot talks about spring and Startitis, where you want to start a lot of projects, but then they never get finished. I currently have 2 shawls and 2 pairs of socks and 2 baby blankets all sitting around in baskets waiting to be finished.

So what did I do this morning? I balled up the yarn, this lovely hand dyed green wool, for another shawl. I managed to not start knitting on it, but, really, it's only a matter of time...

The shawls are two different patterns I'm designing... the first that I'm actually taking time to document. Fun, but I have huge graphs made up of taped-together graph paper with each stitch marked... a good way for me to work initially, until I get the design figured out, I can't write instructions.

The socks are-- a pair for my mother, who had some health issues this past winter and had some toes taken off. She's been wearing a sort of open boot like shoe (like goes over walking casts) and her feet have been freezing. Enter a pair of wool socks, which will be finished just in time for the summer weather when she won't need them. The other pair of socks is the pair I owe my future SIL from Christmas. I'd done 2/3 of them, and when he tried them on, his calves were too big (not my socks being too small, mind you :) So I had to frog them and start over. This time they'll fit the Jolly Greek Giant. SIL can felt them if they're too big. One of the baby blankets I'd started for my grandbaby... I frogged the other projects I'd started for him/her, but I thought I could finish this one to have a gift in reserve... Someone is always having babies around here. I just haven't had the heart to pick it up. The other UFO blanket isn't mine. My sister's MIL started it for her baby, who is now 45. She finally decided she was never going to finish it, and passed it on to me to finish. All the strips are done, but I didn't like the way it was made up in the pattern, so I'm waiting for inspiration to strike so I can finish it up and give it to her grandchildren.

I did manage to finish the Mountain Flowers shawl I knit out of angora starting in Feb, and another 2 projects, ponchos for my nieces birthdays are all done, as well as a pair of socks for the guy who gave me all the fleece last winter.

Work has a lot of projects going now too, from new computers in the student labs to a new web page we'd like to launch in early Sept... many things started, but nothing finished yet.

This weekend, we're starting our garden... yet another project start... must be spring
